From the Pastor

Over the past week we have celebrated the holy days of All Saints and All Souls, and in many homes in our parish we have also commemorated the Dia de los Muertos with pictures, mementos and regalitos to our deceased family and friends. We celebrate the saints, above all others our Mother Mary, throughout the year on different days. As well, our dear departed remain close to our hearts and in memories. These special days give us another special opportunity to pray together and celebrate.

A very good priest friend of mine believes that part of why the world is so dark and tumultuous right now is because so many deny the afterlife - or seem to have forgotten about it. That is, many think that this life on earth is “it.” Instead, you and I recognize that after this life on earth (with all its joys, sadnesses, and everything in between) we will stand before Our Lord. Jesus taught us through a special parable, in Matthew 25:31-46, that all and each will be judged according to her or his treatment of the least ones and “Then [the wicked] will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

I think my friend is right. We sometimes roll our eyes at the billboards around town asking “Are You Prepared? Jesus Saves!” but at the heart of our faith is the belief that we all need saving and Jesus offers His life for ours. For those who believe and love God and neighbor we will live with Him forever. For 2,000 years we’ve been spreading his Good News to the ends of the earth. So, though the billboards may seem “over the top” their questions are fair and the message is true.

We continue to pray for all our loved ones, enemies, and the forgotten who have died - may they rest in peace and live with Jesus forever! May all the Saints in heaven pray for us who remain on earth as we continue along The Way, who is Jesus Christ.

God bless you all, stay safe and healthy!
